Cloud Architect

Prague - Strahov: (mostly remote, as needed 1–2× a week on-site at Strahov)

The role combines architecture with hands-on operations and offers the opportunity to influence the future direction of the CRA/Cloud4com IaaS/PaaS platform at a senior level.

Job description:

design, development and stabilization of cloud infrastructure and related platforms
development of an IaaS platform built on Apache CloudStack / KVM
design, implementation and operation of a new cloud platform
planning and execution of upgrade cycles and introduction of new capabilities
resolution of operational incidents at the hypervisor and Ubuntu OS level
collaboration with storage and network teams on the design and resolution of infrastructure topics
design of future managed PaaS services and their architecture
implementation of Infrastructure as Code and automation of operations
working with Ansible, Terraform and bash including the creation of idempotent playbooks/modules
support for DevOps/GitOps approaches, CI/CD and versioning of infrastructure state
mentoring and knowledge transfer to the operations team
independent design and defense of architectural decisions

Requirements:

at least 5 years of senior production experience with virtualization, Linux and DevOps approaches
senior-level knowledge of Linux administration – production servers, kernel tuning, storage, networking and incident troubleshooting
experience with KVM virtualization – Apache CloudStack, Proxmox, OpenStack or a similar platform
hands-on experience with virtual networks, storage backends, HA, live migrations and platform upgrade cycles
experience with automation using bash, Ansible and Terraform
knowledge of idempotent playbooks/modules, infrastructure state versioning and CI/CD
practical experience with DevOps/GitOps – branching strategies, code review, deploy pipeline and infrastructure as a versioned source of truth
knowledge of networking at the L2/L3 level, VXLAN/EVPN, firewalling and routing including production troubleshooting
practical knowledge of DR/backup principles, backup strategy design and RTO/RPO
ability to independently design and defend architectural decisions
hands-on production experience – not just lab, PoC or theoretical knowledge
willingness to come to Strahov 1–2× a week as needed

Nice to have:

hands-on experience with hyperscalers, e.g. AWS or Azure
experience with hybrid / multi-cloud environments
experience designing a PaaS layer inspired by the API-driven approach of hyperscalers
